Ready, Set, Mo! Happy Movember Everyone!

Happy Movember from the Pura Vida! eh? Team!

No, the word Movember is not misspelt. Although today marks the beginning of November, it also kicks off Movember – a month of abundant facial hair and inescapable bad moustaches aiming to raise awareness of men’s physical and mental health.

“Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.” Movember Website, www.movember.com

Guys – becoming a Mo Bro is easy. Simply visit www.movember.com to learn how you can support Movember by growing your own stashe in return for cash for the cause. Ladies – Movember is by no means limited to male participants. Help promote and protect the health of the men in your life by becoming a Mo Sista today!

Last year (2011), nearly 2 million (1.9 million) people around the world registered for Movember. $125.7 million dollars was raised, and an overwhelming 89.6% of the funds went directly to Men’s Health Programs (with only 5.9% of additional funds supporting fundraising and administrative costs, leaving 4.5% of the earning as retained funds for future spending). That’s over $110 million dollars of financial support that was pumped into valuable Men’s health initiatives and programs thanks to Movember. And that was only in 2011.

“Movember aims to fulfill its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health by continuing to spark conversation and spread awareness of men’s health each year.” Movember Website, www.movember.com

Let’s be honest, we all may have shallower pockets this month compared to Novembers in the past, but if you cannot financially contribute to Movember, your time, attention, and effort is every bit as valuable. Movember is a cause, and without the backing of its strong community pushing it to succeed, its message pertaining to the importance of men’s health would not be heard. So take a few minutes and go online. You may just learn something that could save your husband, brother, father, grandfather, or son’s life. If you are able, grow a stache of your own. If not for the fundraising purpose, than at least to support the Movember initiative and visually identify yourself as a man who cares about your own health and the health of those around you.

On the lighter side of things, the Movember website also offers a hilarious online gallery featuring photos of individuals sporting moustaches (you can submit your own photo online), inspirational stories, and a section titled Moustachery that the website describes as “dedicated to and for the moustache aficionado”. What more could you possibly need to get “mo”tivated?

QUESTION TO COMMENT ON: Do you support Movember? How?

Almost forgot to ask . . . Is this Nikki or Ricky I am messaging? Also, where do you run your business from, i.e., do you live in Costa Rica or the United States? Thanks!

      blade3colorado –
This is Nikki at the moment. As for Pura Vida! eh? Incorporated, we split our time between both countries as we have property and offices in each. :)
      Pura vida!
