Maroon 5’s Costa Rica Soundtrack?

imperialfestivalOne year ago Maroon 5 headlined an incredible show at Costa Rica’s Festival Imperial in La Guacima, Alajuela. And, I missed it. I’ve been listening to the band since before their Maroon-inspired days, back when Kara’s Flowers were the object of their affection. Although I wasn’t that girl who covered her walls with pin-ups of the group, I was the girl who posted inspirational quotes from their Songs About Jane album on her dorm wall in 2002. It’s hard to believe that I have yet to see them live anywhere in the world, but not being able to cease the opportunity to see them perform in this Costa Rican paradise was as disheartening as any line from Alanis Morissette’s Ironic. Most regretted missed opportunities – 1. Me – 0.

Fortunately, the last decade has seen Maroon 5 progressively achieve the commercial success their artistry, hard work, and dedication deserves, so the odds are in my favour that I’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch them ‘en vivo’ at some point. In the meantime, I enjoy watching front man Adam Levine coach musical hopefuls on NBC’s The Voice.

Sure, we’re always on the go at Pura Vida! eh? Incorporated – helping travellers plan their Costa Rica vacations, answering bloggers questions on and posting related guest posts on – however, Ricky and I break as often as we can for the anonymously-designed singing competition which has become our guilty reality TV pleasure. Sure, talent drew us in during the first three seasons, but this fourth one’s got game now that Shakira (alongside Usher) has been added to the panel.

What do you get when a Canadian Maroon 5 groupie and a latin-pop-sensation-loving Costa Rican compete? Ricky and I aren’t quite sure yet, but we’re bound to bicker over song selections, coach commentaries, and competitor performances. He’s TEAMSHAKIRA and I’m TEAMADAM, so there will be a battle both on and off the screen over the next 12 weeks or so until the season finale confirms a winner.

In the meantime, I’m happy listening to my nearly scratched-out copies of Maroon 5 albums. They make long travel days more enjoyable (check out Overexposed as an album choice from in-flight entertainment options if you plan to fly with TACA/LACSA over the next few months) and they make great vacation soundtracks. Here’s some helpful links if you choose to listen to the group during your next Costa Rica vacation.

  1. Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is important and everything. Nevertheless just
imagine if you added some great visuals or video clips to give your
posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and
video clips, this website could undeniably be one of the very best in its
    field. Excellent blog!

  2. I watch The Voice, too. I’m liking the addition of Shakira and Usher. Will be fun to see how the season plays out (and I’m sure there will be some “friendly fights” about team Adam vs. Shakira – that’s part of the fun of watching :))
