Mapache Car Rental discount code details

We’re pleased to be able to offer Costa Rica Travel Blog readers access to 25-50% off the regular daily and weekly car rental prices (as noted on the car rental agency’s website) for vehicles provided by Mapache with the use of our Mapache Car Rental discount code—no purchase, booking, or direct contact with us required!

The discount code also provides the following:

• The option to add a second driver to the rental agreement for free (this request must be made at the time of vehicle reservation when the discount code is provided to the car rental agency)
• Unlimited mileage
• A map of Costa Rica (subject to availability)
• Free vehicle pick-up and return at any of Mapache’s in-country offices (for rental periods 3 days or longer; shorter rental periods may be charged a pick-up fee and/or a return fee)
• 24-hour emergency telephone assistance

Other details:

• The discount code cannot be applied retroactively to current car rental reservations
• There is no minimum-day rental period required for the discount code to apply (please check with the car rental agency directly whether they require a minimum-day rental period for particular vehicle types or particular travel dates according to their own policies)
• The discount code is subject to vehicle availability
• This discount code cannot be combined with any other promotions provided by the car rental agency, including the option to decline part CDW insurance (please see our related blog post Costa Rica Car Rental Insurance Information for more information about declining part CDW insurance)
• The discount code does not include insurance (please contact the car rental agency directly for insurance information and price quotes)
• The discount code does not include any optional add-ons or applicable fees such as a GPS rental, a cell phone rental, a baby and/or a booster seat rental, a wheelchair and/or a walker rental, a cooler rental, a roof-rack rental, vehicle delivery fees, vehicle pick-up fees, vehicle return late fees, smoke damage fees, loss-of-key fees, gasoline top-up fees, and/or the highway assistance add-on (please contact the car rental agency directly for add-on/fee information and price quotes)
• Please contact the car rental agency directly for vehicle specifics such as fleet models, vehicle years, motor information, transmission information, fuel types, luggage capacities, passenger capacities, door totals, and more

On a personal note… if you choose to rent a vehicle through Mapache, we highly recommend you purchase the car rental agency’s optional Highway Assistance add-on (the “SAC”–Servicio de Asistencia en Carretera–in Spanish). It typically comes with an additional cost of $10.00 per rental (have the car rental agency confirm the current price).

Rental requirements through Mapache Car Rental

• Renters must be older than 21 years of age and be able to present both an original, valid passport and an original, valid driver’s license (identification copies are not accepted)
• Renters must be able to pay for the car and insurance(s) with a credit card; the credit card must have a credit limit high enough to cover the vehicle’s security deposit at the time you pick-up the car (cash and debit payments and/or deposits are not accepted)

How to apply the Mapache Car Rental discount code

Provide the discount code noted above to Mapache when you place a reservation with them directly. They request that you use the following email address to contact them with your car rental reservation request: customerservice@mapache.co.cr

Important notes

• The discount code is not valid for reservations placed through Mapache’s website
• Contact with any other booking agent other than Mapache (including agents online and in-person) will nullify the discount
• Making a car rental reservation through a source other than Mapache (including online businesses and storefronts) will nullify the discount
