Hello. 8 adults. Staying at Arenal. Want to go zip lining, double cables if possible. Fun and adventurous group. Also want to mix with hanging bridges if possible. Any recommendations? Thanks a bunch.

Still trying to decide between Defasio Tours or Sky Trek………Any suggestions?

      Hi Christopher!

To confirm, the “Sky Trek Canopy Tour” is the name of the canopy tour (i.e., zip-lining experience) run by Sky Adventures, a canopy tour operator that’s based in both the La Fortuna/Arenal and Monteverde regions. Desafio is a tour operator and travel agency; they do not operate a canopy tour of their own, but they do sell (i.e., accept bookings for) canopy tours run by other companies. This means that if you choose to book a zip-lining experience through Sky Adventures, you’ll participate in their “Sky Trek Canopy Tour,” but if you choose to book a zip-lining experience through Desafio, you’ll participate in whichever canopy tour you book through them. Desafio sells a few different canopy tours in the La Fortuna/Arenal and Monteverde areas, one of them being Sky Adventures‘s “Sky Trek Canopy Tour,” so be sure to book the exact canopy tour that you’re interested in. If it’s the “Sky Trek Canopy Tour” that you decide on, here are links to our discounts for this tour run in either the La Fortuna/Arenal or Monteverde area of Costa Rica:

DISCOUNT: Sky Trek Canopy Tour (Ziplining) – Adult (From La Fortuna / Operated by Sky Adventures)
DISCOUNT: Sky Trek Canopy Tour (Ziplining) – Adult (From Monteverde / Operated by Sky Adventures)

We just got back from CR and went ziplining in Herradura! Would love to try it at Arenal or Monteverde – what a view!

      Hi Shannon!

That’s great news. Did you go zip-lining at the Vista Los Suenos Adventure Park? Hope you had a blast!

If you had to pick one place to zipline, would it be in Arenal or in Monteverde? We are going to both places but only want to zipline once. It is for a family of four with kids 12 and 8 years old.

      Hello Cyn!

If you’re already planning to visit both destinations during your trip (great choice, by the way!), we suggest letting your other interests decide whether you should go zip-lining in La Fortuna/Arenal or Monteverde. La Fortuna offers more adventure tours than Monteverde, so if you plan to participate in several of those, you may find that there’s more time in your schedule to go zip-lining while in Monteverde. Alternatively, if there’s more that piques your interest in Monteverde, you can easily book a zip-lining tour for your time in La Fortuna/Arenal. As far as the experience itself goes, you’ll see the rainforest and the volcano if you zipline while in La Fortuna/Arenal, and you’ll see the cloud forest (and may even zipline through clouds) while in Monteverde. The weather may also factor into your plans. At what time of year do you intend to visit?

      Pura vida! 🙂

Hi there! How far in advance should we book a zipline tour? Can we do it the day before?

      Hi Lisa!

Great question! This depends largely on the time of year you plan to visit Costa Rica and in which destination (i.e., city/town in Costa Rica) you plan to go zip-lining. When do you intend to come to Costa Rica and whereabouts do you intend to go? Canopy tour spaces for popular tours tend to fill up during busy periods, but last-minute reservations are sometimes accepted for lesser-known tours, tours operated from non-popular destinations in Costa Rica, and/or tours run during the off-season. Regardless, we recommend booking your desired Costa Rica day tours as early as you decide on them in order to secure availability. Most companies allow reservation changes and cancelations without penalty up to a day or two before the tour date if need be, and booking early means you’ll gain access to awesome discounts, like the hundreds of free tour discounts we provide in our Discount Database. (Most of the discounts in the database must be requested at least 10 days before the tour date, or longer during busy periods.) I was wondering if I should book one of the zipline tours before I go to Costa Rica or can I book a tour after I get to Fortuna or Monteverde? How much advance notice do the tour operators require?

Hi there, what a great article. I am travelling to Costa Rica next month and I am staying in Sarapiqui. I know you only reviewed Arenal and Monte Verde here, but do you know anything Sarapiqui zipline?

I found couple of video on youtube, I especialy liked this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybf51kkqff4&t=4s

Please let me know any thoughts or advice about Sarapiqui zipline.

    Thanks,
    Alex

      Hey Alex Kaur!

Thanks so much for asking! We’re familiar with Aventuras del Sarapiqui (the company featured in the video link you provided); they’re primarily a rafting tour operator that’s based in Chilamate, a subset of the greater Sarapiqui area. They also run a small zipline operation, and while it doesn’t compare to the zip-lining tours described above with respect to thrills and views, it’s not a bad option if you’re looking for a tamer zip-lining experience. Since the Sarapiqui area is largely flat, you won’t get the feeling of zip-lining high above the treetops like you would while zip-lining around the Arenal Volcano or Monteverde’s cloud forest, but if you’d prefer to ride cables that aren’t as high up off the forest floor, Sarapiqui would be an appropriate destination for that experience.

      Pura vida! 🙂
