Great questions! If you plan to travel to/from the SJO Airport and La Fortuna/Arenal only, a 4×4 isn’t required. If you plan to visit Monteverde, it would be a good idea to rent a 4×4. For more information about driving around La Fortuna and Monteverde, don’t miss our related blog posts:

We are concerned because we have sent you 5 emails over the past week and have not received a response to any (3 emails were in regards to the river rafting reservation, 1 email was in regards to the sky adventures reservation, and 1 email was in regards to a different answer response). The email address we are sending the messages to is alexandrebourgeois55@hotmail.com which I believe is correct, but I am not sure you are receiving our emails. Perhaps if you email us at the address provided above we can respond to your message and you will be able to receive our contact that way. 🙂 In addition, would it be possible to check your email account’s junk mail folder? My apologies for any confusion; we’ve had a few people comment on the same regarding our Vegan/Vegetarian article, so I will add a special note about it to our article for clarification purposes. The article started out being for vegans and vegetarians only, but Ricky, who is a pescatarian, thought it would be good to include options for travelers who eat fish. You’re correct, though, vegetarians don’t eat fish. To eliminate doubt and confusion moving forward, I’ll clarify all this at the top of our article. 🙂

It sounds like you have your hands full! It also sounds like you’re going to have a great time. 🙂 Also, congrats on the upcoming wedding! I’m sure you and your fiancee are going to love it here.
With 8 days to spend here, I’ll be honest, visiting Corcovado for 3 days and then visiting Monteverde and La Fortuna/Arenal (with a stop in San Jose in the middle) is tough. Definitely not impossible, though, and since we’re all for exploration, we say go for it!

It will help you decide whether you should visit both destinations or only one of the two. Monteverde Tour DiscountsWith respect to Corcovado, a quick question: where exactly do you plan to stay on the Osa Peninsula? If you stay in Puerto Jimenez or Drake Bay, you can fly from either of those destinations to La Fortuna/Arenal (with a quick stopover at the SJO Airport), which would skip the longer stop in San Jose and the drive to Monteverde, saving you some previous travel time.

Futbol (soccer) clothing is widely available but official jerseys are a bit more difficult to come by. (There is non-official and less expensive team apparel available for purchase if you would prefer that.) Some large souvenir stores carry official jerseys but you’ll have better luck checking out local sport stores that cater to nationals (not tourists). Most cities have at least one. The store names vary by location; look for a shop with tienda deportiva and/or tienda de deportes in the title.

Thanks so much for reading our post about the hanging bridges! Six hours would be more than enough time, and in our opinion, too much time. When we visit the bridges on our own, we typically walk through in about 1.5-2 hours. Sometimes the visit takes longer, depending on the quality of birding. (Ricky is a bird enthusiast, so it’s not uncommon for us to spend 20 minutes standing in one spot, watching a particular bird or listening to its song.) Official guided park tours typically take anywhere from two to three hours to complete, and that includes time for the guide to point out things of interest along the way. If you want to give yourself some buffer time, I would cap this at four hours; with six hours allotted for the park, you may find that the extra few hours would be better spent elsewhere. 🙂

Thanks so much! Your site is fabulous, by the way. I’ve been eyeing all things paleo for a while now, contemplating whether or not to make the leap. As a vegetarian, it concerns me to limit my options more than they already are, but healthy eating is my priority, and I know the paleo approach has a ton of advantages. I’ve recently hopped onto the butternut squash soup train and I’m loving the tasty ride, so you can imagine how appealing your butternut squash breakfast is looking to me right now. I’ll have to give it a go. 🙂
