We lived in Costa Rica for a year in 1981-1982. Loved the warmth of the people and the trips to the beaches! We lived in San Francisco de Dos Rios, outside of San Jose. Beautiful.

      Hi Rhonda!

That sounds amazing! The nation was surely a lot less touristy then but likely just as stunning as it is today. Thanks so much for commenting! 🙂

Looks lovely – and I like that you include the part about children … even though I know nothing about the country I hesitate to go outside the U.S. with my kids … I dunno … false sense of security maybe 🙂

      Hey snosler!

Your concern is a valid one! Many, many areas of Costa Rica are child-friendly. For general information about staying safe in Costa Rica, don’t miss our related blog post: Costa Rica Safety Guide: Is Costa Rica Safe? Yes, If You Do This.

Snosler – I’ve been to Costa Rica and it is one place I would not hesitate to take my kids. Everyone was so kind, friendly and helpful. Everywhere we went was very clean and the food was very kid-friendly and delicious. TONS of activities for them to do, too. What kid wouldn’t love seeing wild monkeys in the jungle and an active volcano??? I sincerely hope to take my family there someday.

Without knowing your friend, I can confirm that he is correct! There’s so much to love about this country that I don’t doubt his raves. 😉 We hope to see you here one day so you can experience all of the beauty for yourself! 🙂
